Chasen - Bamboo Whisk

Details

It is a traditional Japanese bamboo whisk, known as a chasen.

It is used to mix matcha with hot water in a bowl (called a chawan) until a smooth, frothy texture is achieved.

The whisking motion is performed with a quick “W” or “M” movement of the wrist, rather than in circles.

There are different types of chasen, some with more prongs, ideal for fine ceremonial matcha, and others with fewer prongs, suited for thicker matcha preparations (koicha).
